Welcome to our St. Matthew’s Preschool page!

St. Matthew’s Preschool is a place where young children can learn, play, create, explore and discover the world around them!

Our children (and teachers!) have a great time learning all the skills needed to get ready for kindergarten.  Each month we use a different theme that provides the children with learning opportunities that support all areas of development.  Through literacy, math, science, social studies, creative experiences, music, large motor and Christian Education activities, our staff strives to provide an atmosphere that encourages social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative growth and development of the child as a whole.

Our curriculum is designed by our staff and supports The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Early Learning Standards, The National Association of the Education of Young Children’s Standards and follows NAEYC’s Developmentally Appropriate Practices.

Our teachers each hold an A.A.S. in Early Childhood Education and have over ten years experience working with young children.  They regularly attend Professional Development Opportunities that support continuous growth and knowledge of current practices in early education.

We offer morning and afternoon sessions for children ages 3 and 4 years-old.  Children must be 3 years-old on or before September 1st to attend our three year- old class and 4 years-old on or before September 1st to attend our four year-old class.

Three year-old sessions meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. for the morning session and 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. for the afternoon session.

Four year-old sessions meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 a.m.-
11:30 a.m. for the morning sessions and 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. for the afternoon sessions.

Our three year-old classes have a focus on socialization, introducing a school routine, following directions, understanding and respecting classroom rules and boundaries, building large and fine motor development and emphasizing self confidence while developing independent skills.

Our four year-old classes focus on all of the above with an emphasis on kindergarten readiness skills.  Throughout the year, teachers will be collecting work samples, observations and pictures, documenting growth in all areas of development.  These documentations are collected using a portfolio system and used by teachers for assessment purposes, then given to families at the end of the school year.
